PI

Arnethea Sutton, PhD
Assistant professor, VCU Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences 
Principal Investigator, C.A.R.E.S LAB

Dr. Arnethea Sutton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University and a member of the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Dr. Sutton received her PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017 and she completed a T32 postdoctoral fellowship in cancer prevention and control from VCU in 2022. Dr. Sutton's research focuses on cancer survivorship and cancer disparities, broadly. She is the PI of an NCI K99/R00 that seeks to understand how psychosocial stress and coping contribute to the onset of and racial disparities in hypertension amongst breast cancer survivors. She is also a Co-I on a recently funded AHA SFRN focused on psychosocial stress and cardiovascular outcomes in cancer survivors. She serves as an assistant editor for JACC: Cardio-oncology and is the Chair of the Cancer Health Disparities Special Interest Group for the American Society of Preventive Oncology. She also leads Facts and Faith Fridays, a partnership between VCU Massey Cancer Center and the African American faith-based community that provides accurate information and resources to improve the health of our communities.

Victoria Williams, BS 
Research Coordinator , C.A.R.E.S LAB

Victoria is the Research Coordinator for the C.A.R.E.S Lab. Victoria received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University  in 2020. Victoria's research interests are minority inclusion within clinical and non clinical scope. Outside of the lab you can find Victoria weightlifting and cooking new recipes.

Ashley Turner, BS 
Research Assistant, C.A.R.E.S LAB

Ashley is a full time Research Assistant for the C.A.R.E.S Lab. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology form Old Dominion University in 2017. Outside of the CARES Lab you can find her traveling with her family, reading non fiction novels in local coffee shops in RVA.

Undergraduate Research Assistant 

America is an undergraduate Research Assistant for the CARES Lab. She is a senior at VCU majoring in Exercise Science, Pre-PA track. Outside of the classroom and the CARES Lab you can find her exploring new cities, reading novels, and trying new cuisines in RVA.
